Book Boyfriend: Sean Kendrick

We decided that Thursday needed a little pizazz and stumbled on this meme while hanging out at one of our favorite blogs, A Book and a Cupcake. So we took ourselves over to The Unread Reader to see what it was all about and join the fun. The Unread Reader features this meme on Wednesdays, but we figured moving our participation to Thursday wouldn't hurt anything. We'd love it if you'd leave a comment if you participate in this so we can check out your book boyfriends as well.

My Book Boyfriend is. . . .
Sean Kendrick
from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

Sean is a man of few words. You don't doubt a word he says, since every word out of his mouth is carefully considered and planned. And when he makes a comment that is complimentary- or even more rare, declares his feelings- any girl in her right mind would swoon.

Appearance: dark hair, "made of all corners", wild looking with a sharp expression. Almost too severe to be handsome, he has sharp-edged cheekbones and a razor-edge nose. His hands are bruised and torn from his time working with the horses. His eyes are permanently narrowed against the sun and the sea.

Why he's my book boyfriend: Sean Kendrick speaks nothing but what he knows to be true in his heart, and I appreciate that. He is a thing of the island, and has no desire to be anyone or anywhere else. He knows himself- a rare thing. He treats Puck with the respectful and gentle manner he uses with the horses- yet does not mistake her for a soft, tame thing. He sees that she knows herself as well. And he does not rush her into things before she is ready; he waits for her to make the first move.

Facts about Sean:

At age 10, he saw his father killed in the Scorpio races. Having been orphaned, he began working for Malvern as a stable boy. At present he is 19, and Malvern's most valuable hand. He lives in a flat in the stable.
Sean has won the Scorpio races 4 times. His favorite mount is a red stallion named Corr.

Sean quotes:
To Puck, after having saved her life: "Keep your pony off this beach."
Puck: "All I know is that Sean Kendrick rode that bay mare and waited until he was nearly over the cliff edge before saving himself, and that the dead speak more than he does."
Sean, when asked why he stays on the island: "The sky and the sand and the sea and Corr."
Sean, when asked what he says when he whispers to his horse: "What he needs to hear."

Dear reader, if you've not yet read this book. . . what are you waiting for?
