Book BFF: Wanderer

Book BFF was created by Larks Andrea, Paula, and Jen to showcase some of our favorite ladies & was originally inspired by Book Boyfriend. We'd love it if you'd join us featuring your favorite Book BFFs and leaving links so we can check out your posts. We will be alternating between Book Boyfriends and Book BFFs on Thursdays.

Wanderer from The Host by Stephenie Meyer

Nickname: Wanda

 Appearance:

Wanda is a parasitic silver worm which inhabits a host body.

The only sign that she is in her host is a reflective silvery circle around the pupil of the host’s eye.

For most of The Host, Wanda inhabits Melanie Stryder, and shares her physical characteristics: dark shoulder length hair, tanned skin, hazel eyes.

 Facts about Wanda:

Wanda has lived on 8 different planets, which is unusual for her kind as they tend to settle after one or two planets.

Wanda was also born on The Origin unlike most Souls.

Wanda is inserted into Melanie because she has a great deal of experience with hosts, and the Souls hope she will be able to access Melanie’s memories to find out more about the Resistance.

Wanda struggles to suppress Melanie, and finds herself caring for the people Melanie cares for.

Wanda refuses to resort to violence, even in self-defence.

Wanda is a gentle Soul, who only wants to help the people she encounters.

 Quotes:

“Her name is Wanda, not it. You will not touch her. Any mark you leave on her, I will double on your worthless hide.” Ian

”It’s not the face, but the expressions on it. It’s not the voice, but what you say. It’s not how you look in that body, but the things you do with it. You are beautiful.” Ian to Wanda

“You are the noblest, purest creature I’ve ever met. The universe will be a darker place without you.” Doc to Wanda

“I, the soul called Wanderer, love you, human Ian. And that will never change, no matter what I might become.” Wanda

“What was it that made this human love so much more desirable to me than the love of my own kind? Was it because it was exclusive and capricious? The souls offered love and acceptance to all. Did I crave a greater challenge?...Or was it simply better somehow? Because these humans hate with so much fury, was the other end of the spectrum that they could love with more heart and zeal and fire?”

 Why she’s my Book BFF:

Wanda is the sort of character who might annoy you because she is just SO nice. But you can’t be annoyed with her for long, because unlike humans, she is so genuinely nice that you actually just want to hug her all the time and it is impossible not to like her without feeling like you yourself are just awful. She is totally selfless and time after time she puts herself into harm’s way because she would rather that she gets hurt than someone she loves. I love how she spends most of her time thinking about things and forming rational decisions, and how she is so forgiving of people... even people who tried to hurt her.
